How to buy your first CS2 skin on Steam

Let's look at the mechanics of the purchase itself, without strategies or evaluation - just what to click and what will happen next. If you need to choose which skin to take, that's a separate conversation; there is only a process here.
From replenishing your wallet to an item in your inventory: where to click, what will happen after payment and why the a purchased skin cannot be resold for a week.
Before your first purchase
The account must not be limited: until $5 or equivalent is spent on Steam, the Marketplace is closed. Replenishment of the wallet for this amount is counted.
A mobile authenticator is not required for purchase, but without it you will not be able to exchange or sell the item normally. It makes more sense to install it right away.
The money should be in the Steam wallet. It is replenished in the Steam store with an accessible payment method.
Making the purchase
Open the Steam Marketplace and find the item you need by name. Please note: each state has its own separate page. "AK-47 | Redline (Field-Tested)" and "AK-47 | Redline (Minimal Wear)” are two different products with different prices.
There is a list of lots on the item page below. When you click “Buy” on the selected one, a confirmation window opens with the total amount.
You confirm, the money is debited from your wallet, and the item appears in your inventory immediately. No exchanges or expectations: the transaction takes place inside Steam.
If the desired lot is not available or the price does not suit you, instead of an instant purchase, you can place an order and wait until someone makes an offer at your price.
- Check the condition of the title before purchasing - this is the most common rookie mistake.
- The price in the list of lots is already final; the seller pays the commission.
- Purchasing inside Steam is safe: there is technically no one here to deceive you.
After the purchase
The item is immediately in the inventory and can be used in the game. But you can’t exchange or resell it for seven days—a line with the exact unlock date will appear in the description.
This is protection against the quick resale of stolen goods, and there is no way around it. If you bought skin with the intention of resell it immediately, you will have to wait a week.
You cannot cancel your purchase. Transactions on the Marketplace are irreversible and no refunds are provided for them.
Buying outside Steam
Third-party sites give prices in rubles and are often cheaper, but there you receive the item by exchanging it through a bot. This is a different procedure with its own risks.
For your first purchase, Steam is easier and safer. It makes sense to understand third-party sites when you already understand how to check trade offers and distinguish a real bot from a copy.
