CS2 pattern index: what the number actually changes

A pattern index, often called a seed, identifies the texture arrangement for an item. On some finishes the visible difference is small. On others, texture placement can strongly affect the appearance collectors want.
Understand pattern seeds, texture placement and collector premiums. Learn to compare a specific pattern without confusing it with wear or rarity.
Pattern and float describe different properties
Float concerns wear. Pattern concerns how the finish is arranged. A clean-looking item can have an ordinary pattern, while a visibly worn item can carry a desirable pattern. Evaluate both properties rather than treating a low float as proof of a rare arrangement.
Inspect the exact item in CS2 and read its pattern information. Compare the visible areas that matter for that finish, including the relevant side of a knife or weapon. A seller’s description or a picture of another copy is not enough. Not every pattern number is meaningful on every finish, and a supposedly special seed needs a finish-specific explanation.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change an existing skin’s pattern index?
You cannot choose a new seed for an existing item through normal gameplay or inspection.
Is a particular number rare on every skin?
No. Pattern significance depends on the finish. A seed prized for one finish may have no special value on another.

How much do applied stickers add to a CS2 skin?
Evaluate a sticker craft using placement, condition, matching designs and comparable sales. Understand why loose sticker prices cannot simply be added up.
